Giving Tuesday is a global movement that encourages people to rally behind the organizations they believe in (for instance, the Churchill Northern Studies Centre).
Today, we want to spotlight the importance of our facility to researchers, and how your support really makes a difference for subarctic science.
Our Campaign
If you are able to give financially, maybe you’ll consider donating to our year-end campaign. For only $89, you can provide researchers with all the resources and support they need to pursue their work for one day at the CNSC.
You can also help spread the word about the CNSC on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter. Help us expand our network of support to ensure we can help as many researchers as possible.
Of course, we are also open for visitors, and we’d love to have you join us for a Learning Vacation or on a Volunteer Expedition. Fees from both programs support our work!
How your support helps researchers
Your support allows us to offer affordable, accessible services to researchers who study in and around Churchill. These services include research assistance, logistical support, contracted research, wet and dry laboratories, storage space, and reference collections.

Researchers also have access to all of the perks of our state-of-the-art facility, which include accommodations, housekeeping, cafeteria, classrooms, internet, and more.

More about the Centre
Our facility — which recently celebrated a decade of use — is central to our mission. The $19-million Centre opened its doors to researchers in August of 2011, and it has been a significant asset ever since.
Still, there have been two major disruptions — namely, the rail line that we heavily depend on being out for a year and a half and COVID-19 forcing the cancellation of 22 programs — that have impacted not just our organization’s ability to facilitate research projects, but also to generate revenue and continue operating at our best.
With all of the lost revenue, the CNSC has struggled financially. Our typical proceeds from programming are enough to offset our ordinary operational and capital needs, but there’s not enough left over to cover such major losses as the ones that we have faced.
