Frequently asked questions

How does the booking process work?

One member of your group will need to complete the Researcher Booking Request on our website. We will then review your application based on feasibility and space availability. If your project is approved, we will send you further information for completing the booking process. 

What lab equipment does the CNSC provide?

We have some larger equipment available such as microscopes, drying ovens, muffle furnace, centrifuge, and balances. Please reach out to the Science department with any questions about our equipment availability at [email protected]. 

Do you have field technicians available to help with my project?

If you anticipate needing additional help with your project, either during or before/after your visit, we have technician services available. Our current technician rates can be found on our fees page.

Do I need a bear guard?

Polar bears are a large part of life in Churchill. While bears are most frequently found on land from July – November, they can be encountered any time of year. All groups are required to have a wildlife safety plan in place before going into the field. Bear guarding services are available from the CNSC or private companies in town. Should I bring my own bedding?

No, you do not need to bring your own bedding. We provide towels, linens, blankets, and pillows. You will need to bring your own toiletries.

Do you have laundry facilities?

Yes, we have laundry facilities available on-site. We have detergent available for purchase in the gift shop or you may bring your own. 

Do I need to bring my own food?

During busy seasons (July – August, October – November) we typically have a cook onsite and provide three meals a day. During the off-season we provide you with food but do not have a cook onsite, you will have our kitchen facilities available for you to cook. 

Can you accommodate dietary restrictions?

Yes, we can accommodate most dietary restrictions. Please let us know of any dietary restrictions ahead of time by filling out the intake form provided to you after you book your stay.
